Can't Touch This

(American Apparel Dress, Forever 21 Harem Pants, H&M sweater, Steve Madden bag, Steve Madden Combat Boots)

I consider this my ode to MC Hammer.  To be honest, these pants were a slight impulse buy, but after wearing them once, I have no doubt that they will become an all season staple in my wardrobe.  My friend and I approached these pants at the exact same time.  I exclaimed "These are AMAZING!" while she uttered, "Oh my god, these are hideous."  As we can see, MC Hammer is still not truly understood for his fashion contributions.  To give my friend credit, she had a change of heart when she saw how great these pants ballooned around my thighs.

Pre-Order me some Pre-Fall

(Proenza Schouler Pre-Fall 2011)

(ChloƩ Pre-Fall 2011)

(Alexander Wang Pre-Fall 2011)

I want this stuff.  Proenza Schouler is really hopping on the pattern play train.  And while I think it'd be super difficult to pull off an outfit of all yellow in the middle of November, ChloĆ© is into it.  The skirt is awesome and the light shirt over a turtleneck is new way to keep warm.  As for Wang, monochrome with studs.  And these bottom oxfords with the ankle band are seriously cool.

Wednesday #StyleChat

One of my favorite fashion websites is StyleCaster.Com. StyleCaster gives awesome advice about the season's latest trends, bloggers' picks of the day and what's showing on the runway.  The StyleCaster team introduced another fashion aid today via twitter.  Read all about the twevent here, #stylechat.  Each Wednesday at 3 PM the voice of StyleCaster will answer your burning trend questions.  Just remember to tweet @StyleCaster with your question and the hashtag #stylechat.  I asked my most burning question today and got speedy response from StyleCaster along with some other big names in the fashion industry.  If you haven't entered the twitter world yet, I'll recap each week's #stylechat.  Although, I do suggest you join twitter so that you can speak in #hashtags and create an awesome alter ego.  As for the recap, here it goes!

Q. What is an appropriate fashion industry interview outfit?
A. StyleCaster suggests wearing a simple black dress and no overwhelming accessories.
(Premium Black Ruched Sleeve Pocket Dress)
(Black Crepe Drape Dress)
(Keyhole Shift Dress by Rare**)
All three of these dresses can be found at TopShop.  I tried to give a range of styles but each of these dresses would be appropriate for an interview paired with tights and some cool wedges or with bare legs and patterned flats.  Most jobs in the fashion world encourage individual style and experimenting with trends, but its a good idea to keep your interview look simple and then build upon your personal style after you score the job or internship.

Q. How should I wear statement jewelry?
A. StyleCaster says go for a ring or a necklace over big bangles that constantly move around.
(Galaxy Swirl Glitz Ring)

 (Ice Queen Bib Necklace)

Both of these pieces are by Kate Spade.  You can find them both here.  Either of these pieces would work well on an interview with a black dress, or you can wear them out with jeans and a sweater.  I'd pair the bib necklace with a black tank top, black skinny jeans and a black and white flannel for a laid back but sparkly look.

Q. What is your take on kitten heels for short ladies? Go tall or go home? or Raise the bar by half an inch?
A.  StyleCaster said, What's the point?  No height, and you still walk like an idiot.

(image from google images)
I'm not ashamed to say that this was my question and this was precisely the answer I was looking for.  I do not understand kitten heels and cannot understand why they're peeking their way back into fashion.  I'm not really quite sure why they're called kitten heels because websites seem to always file them under "flats."  I'd much rather wear flats and embrace my shortness than risk putting a kitten's heel on my foot.

Q. What are your top trends for staying fashionable AND warm this snowy season in NYC?
A. Andddd StyleCaster says... Faux Fur, Chunky Knits, Beanies

I completely agree, I posted a mini look book of trendy cold weather items earlier this month too.  I'd also recommend adding some shearling to your winter wardrobe.   You can find some images here

Q. What is your opinion on capes?
A. No capes! Just Caplets!

NO CAPES!

(L'Wren Scott Spring 2011, Image from Style.com)
(Nude Beaded Cape from TopShop)
Just Capelets!

To be honest, I kind of like the cape look as long as there are holes for your arms to peek out of and as long as they don't dip below your waist.  When you get sick of your bulky coat, capes can be both warm and chic over a cashmere sweater and a thin jacket.   Whether you're on the full cape trend or the capelet trend, always remember fashion still can't make you fly, so don't attempt any Superman moves.

Well, that's all the time I have for now, I hope that you enjoyed my recap of #StyleChat.  Join us here next Wednesday to see what trends and topics are discussed.  Remember to tune in on twitter!

Black on Black on Black

(On Me: French Connection Dress, American Apparel Leather Leggings, Steve Madden Boots)
(On Wonderboy: Brooks Brothers Sweater, Rare Men Pants, H&M Combat Boots)

Having a fashion block?  Instead of stressing over what to wear, look into your closet and grab every black piece of clothing you can find.  Black is forever slimming and mixing textures takes a monochromatic look to the next level.

Restaurant Review: Matilda

My girlfriends and I had dinner at Matilda last night.  Matilda is located on 11th Street between Avenue B and Avenue C.  We had the pleasure of meeting both of the owners and learned about the history of this amazing Tuscan-Mexican fusion restaurant.  As husband and wife, the owners decided to name the restaurant after their adorable daughter Matilda.  The menu features common Mexican and Italian dishes with added twists from the other culture.  You can dip either tortilla chips or foccaccia bread in the guacamole to taste a hint of basil.  The gnocchi above was blanketed by a delicious cilantro infused pesto sauce.  We each picked something different from the cocktail menu and we were not disappointed.  I sipped on a Margarita Lime Vino, white wine with lime and salt.  It was extremely refreshing and tasted lighter than a margarita but sweeter than white wine.  Some of the other girls had Prosecitos, a take on a traditional Mojito.  The drinks were made of Prosecco, lime juice and fresh fruits like mango, blackberries or strawberries.  I definitely recommend Matilda for a girl's night out or a if you're looking for a fun date spot.

Trouser Time

(Zara Trousers, American Apparel Lace Bodysuit, H&M Lace Crop Top, Steve Madden Pumps, Kate Spade Clutch, Gap Jacket)

I have decided to take a cue from the Jersey Shore.  The fashionista's version of T-Shirt Time is now Trouser Time.  I love these Zara trousers.  They can be dressed up or down and they're super comfortable.  The lace on lace could have been too much but a tight body suit under a lose crop top worked really well.  I really loved this outfit, I think I would wear it every day if I could.

Cold Weather Covets

 (Perdita Shearling Cuff Ankle Boots)
(Forest Leather Strap Detail Ribbed Knit Palm Warmers)
 (Brown Bear Pom Headband)

 (Black Sheepskin Flying Jacket)
 (Maroon Mongolian Fur Collar)

(Mulberry Cashmere Mix Ankle Leggings)

(Red Navaho Coatigan)

After yesterday's quasi-blizzard that resulted in a non snow day for me, I realized that I don't have enough clothes that can keep me warm without causing me to appear 600 pounds.  Here are some things that I found on Topshop.com that give the gift of warmth while maintaining the even better gift of style.  In an effort to look fashionable and keep warm yesterday, I wore a checkered poncho as a giant scarf.  I got the idea from another blog, The Man Repeller, if you'd like to try you can find the look here.  Some boys asked me if I was wearing a Snuggie around my neck.

The Girl Who Read These Books

(Book Cover Images from Google Images)

If you couldn't already guess, I am the mysterious girl who has read these books.  If you haven't given in to the Lisbeth Salander hype, I strongly suggest that you do.  Lisbeth Salander is quite possibly the most frustratingly interesting character that literature has ever seen.  She defines the phrase "It's none of your beeswax" and no matter how many times you pry, its unlikely that she'll tell you her secrets.  The first book starts off slow (to be honest I skimmed through some financial mumbo jumbo in the beginning) but once you get through the first fifty pages or so, I promise Lisbeth and her infamous frenemie Mikael Blomkvist will have you hooked.  Each book has a better twist than the next and I promise that by the time you finish Hornet's Nest you'll be wishing that you had half the computer savvy that Lisbeth does.  This review does come with some warning.  Late night reading in dark and creaky apartments can lead to some imagined intruders.  Get your hands on the books before the movies come out and sweep Hollywood by storm.

Covert Candids

(Pookie and Sebastian Shirt, American Eagle Vest, Forever 21 Jeans, Steve Madden Wedges, Gap Jacket, Vintage Bag)

This lobby was so fetch, we had to take pictures here.  Apparently, they want to keep it a secret because the doorman scolded us after pictures one and two.  We made a stealth move and turned the corner to take pictures three and four.  Fashion 007.
