One of my favorite fashion websites is
StyleCaster.Com. StyleCaster gives awesome advice about the season's latest trends, bloggers' picks of the day and what's showing on the runway. The StyleCaster team introduced another fashion aid today via twitter. Read all about the twevent here,
#stylechat. Each Wednesday at 3 PM the voice of StyleCaster will answer your burning trend questions. Just remember to tweet @StyleCaster with your question and the hashtag #stylechat. I asked my most burning question today and got speedy response from StyleCaster along with some other big names in the fashion industry. If you haven't entered the twitter world yet, I'll recap each week's #stylechat. Although, I do suggest you join twitter so that you can speak in #hashtags and create an awesome alter ego. As for the recap, here it goes!
Q. What is an appropriate fashion industry interview outfit?
A. StyleCaster suggests wearing a simple black dress and no overwhelming accessories.
(Premium Black Ruched Sleeve Pocket Dress)
(Black Crepe Drape Dress)
(Keyhole Shift Dress by Rare**)
All three of these dresses can be found at TopShop. I tried to give a range of styles but each of these dresses would be appropriate for an interview paired with tights and some cool wedges or with bare legs and patterned flats. Most jobs in the fashion world encourage individual style and experimenting with trends, but its a good idea to keep your interview look simple and then build upon your personal style after you score the job or internship.
Q. How should I wear statement jewelry?
A. StyleCaster says go for a ring or a necklace over big bangles that constantly move around.
(Galaxy Swirl Glitz Ring)
(Ice Queen Bib Necklace)
Both of these pieces are by Kate Spade. You can find them both
here. Either of these pieces would work well on an interview with a black dress, or you can wear them out with jeans and a sweater. I'd pair the bib necklace with a black tank top, black skinny jeans and a black and white flannel for a laid back but sparkly look.
Q. What is your take on kitten heels for short ladies? Go tall or go home? or Raise the bar by half an inch?
A. StyleCaster said, What's the point? No height, and you still walk like an idiot.

I'm not ashamed to say that this was my question and this was precisely the answer I was looking for. I do not understand kitten heels and cannot understand why they're peeking their way back into fashion. I'm not really quite sure why they're called kitten heels because websites seem to always file them under "flats." I'd much rather wear flats and embrace my shortness than risk putting a kitten's heel on my foot.
Q. What are your top trends for staying fashionable AND warm this snowy season in NYC?
A. Andddd StyleCaster says... Faux Fur, Chunky Knits, Beanies
I completely agree, I posted a mini look book of trendy cold weather items earlier this month too. I'd also recommend adding some shearling to your winter wardrobe. You can find some images here
Q. What is your opinion on capes?
A. No capes! Just Caplets!
NO CAPES!
(L'Wren Scott Spring 2011, Image from Style.com)
(Nude Beaded Cape from TopShop)
Just Capelets!
To be honest, I kind of like the cape look as long as there are holes for your arms to peek out of and as long as they don't dip below your waist. When you get sick of your bulky coat, capes can be both warm and chic over a cashmere sweater and a thin jacket. Whether you're on the full cape trend or the capelet trend, always remember fashion still can't make you fly, so don't attempt any Superman moves.
Well, that's all the time I have for now, I hope that you enjoyed my recap of #StyleChat. Join us here next Wednesday to see what trends and topics are discussed. Remember to tune in on twitter!
